Netflix Picks

In case you didn’t know, I’m such a Netflix junkie. Sorry, not sorry…I love to lay in bed and watch episode after episode of television shows blissfully unaware of the world around me. I mean, come on…we’re all guilty of it sometimes! What in the world did we do without Netflix?!

Anyways, I have some current favorites on Netflix…without a doubt! There are tons of great shows and movies on there, but there are some that I could and do watch over and over and over again. Here are some of them…I highly recommend them all!:

Not-so-guilty pleasure: Pretty Little Liars – I am obsessed with it! I love watching old episodes even though I’ve seen them all. As silly as it is, it keeps me on edge because the scandals and drama are that intense.

Oldie but goodie: Pretty in Pink – this was recently added to Netflix and I have always loved this movie. Such an 80’s classic!

Something dramatic: Private Practice – I just started watching this on Netflix in the spring and don’t know why it took me so long to start. This show is seriously good and if I had a dime for how many times it’s brought me to tears…let’s just say that I could buy some serious stuff.

Dose of reality: NYC Prep – This is the show that way back when started my love affair with Bravo, and I couldn’t be happier it’s been added to Netflix.

Laugh out loud: Orange is the New Black – this is the first NF series that I’ve watched and it’s so funny so far and totally unique. Definitely worth a try. I didn’t think I’d enjoy it initially, but I really do – it really appeals to a broad range of audiences.

What are your NF faves?

Books on my Shelf: PLL

I recently began reading the Pretty Little Liars book series (since I’m beyond obsessed with the show).

Although the books are definitely written and meant for someone much, much younger than me, I really enjoyed the first one. It was a light, easy read but was really enjoyable for me, especially as a break from school work and long days.

The characters are obviously familiar and I kind of wish that I’d read the books before watching the show, so I could imagine the characters on my own instead of picturing the actresses.

The book is different from the show though as it gives a ton of different information and stories about the girls that you don’t see on TV. This was a really cool aspect of the book. I also feel like the characters are developed more and differently via this wealth of information, which is another plus.

Overall this was a really fun read and I can’t wait to read more of the series! I will keep you updated as I read on!

Books on my Shelf: Stolarz Series

As I just finished the latest season of Pretty Little Liars, I am on a mystery/thriller/suspense/drama/secrets kick. This obsession has brought me back to a former obsession, in book form.

When I was younger, I read an amazing series that was creepy, thrilling, and kept me guessing. I remember picking up the book in the store and then putting it back, then picking it up again, intrigued by it. That day, I decided not to buy it, but as soon as I got home I wished I had.

Before I went on vacation later that week, I just needed to have that book, so I made my mom go get it for me. For some reason I was so drawn to it.

I ended up so glad I got it, as I finished it before even leaving for vaca. All of the books in the series are those that you simply can’t put down because you need to know what’s going to happen next.

I’m referring to the Stolarz series. The first book is called Blue is for Nightmares and it begins with a simple statement that leaves you begging for more: “I know your secret…”

Following the creepy story of a girl at boarding school who has secrets and experiences lots of drama, this is one of my favorites series ever.

Although it is a young adult novel, whether you’re 15 or 50 I recommend reading these books if you enjoy a good thrill.

Consider this a warning though, Blue is for Nightmares might give you a few nightmares of your own. Don’t let that discourage you from reading though…the story is more than worth the scare!

Happy reading!

Shows to Stream on a Rainy Day

Since it looks like we’re going to be stuck inside for a few days due to Hurricane Sandy, I thought it would be a great time to suggest my favorite TV shows to stream on Netflix. There are so many available, from Barney to a show called Unusual Buildings. I love watching shows on Netflix because there are no commercials! Of course there are all the really popular shows on there, like Gossip Girl, One Tree Hill, and Pretty Little Liars that I watch.

But there are a bunch of other, less popular ones that are also great! Here are some of my favorites that I highly recommend for the rainy days ahead:

  1. Hidden Palms: Although this show only ran for one season, I really enjoyed watching it and all it’s scandal and highly recommend it if you’re a GG or OTH fan!
  2. My So Called Life: This was a popular show a while ago that my mom told me about. It includes witty story lines about teen angst and although it is a little dated, it is still pretty fun to watch.
  3. Dawson’s Creek: Since this is my favorite show ever I was thrilled when it was put onto Netflix instant streaming. This show is dramatic and has a complex, ever-changing story line centered around a small-town group of friends. A WB classic, I highly recommend it to all girls.
  4. Giuliana and Bill: This is a highly underrated shows that currently airs on the style network. G&B are an awesome couple that is so fun to watch and there is a really emotional aspect to the show, too. They clearly love each other and that’s what makes it such an addicting flick.
  5. Hannah Montana: Okay, so maybe I’m a little childish with this one, but I can’t help it! I’ve always been a big Hannah fan. Watching this Disney hit is so mindless, easy, and fun that it’s a great pick-me-up when the clouds are overhead (metaphorically and literally!).

Also, might I add that Netflix has a great collection of old Nickelodeon shows? Talk about a blast from the past! Check out Hey Arnold! and Rugrats to reminisce on your childhood years.

Hope everyone has a relaxing couple of days and watches lots of TV!

PLL

I’m more than aware that I am beyond late on this addiction, but I’m now loving Pretty Little Liars.

I know, I know. Most people have been obsessed with this show for a while. I know I’m hardly the one to discover this show.

I mean, I can’t really keep up with TV shows when I’m at school. I barely even know the channels here besides Bravo and E! (my television staples!). Thus, I was never able to get into PLL because I missed the first few episodes and after that I was completely lost.

So now I’ve started watching it instantly on Netflix (no commercials!) and I Can’t. Stop. Watching.

It is so suspenseful and really scary! Am I the only one that gets really freaked out by the title sequence?!?

With that said, I’m finally wondering who the mysterious A is and can’t wait to see what happens next on PPL. Spencer is my favorite, with her over-achiever persona and I have to say I love how she seems to always have a coffee in her hand!

I don’t think I’ll be able to catch up enough to watch current episodes when they air, since I’m still in the beginning of season one.

But I’m still enjoying it, even if it causes me to need to sleep with the lights on.

I’m also thinking of reading the series by Sara Shepard that the books are based on, because I hear they’re really good and different that the TV show, and we all know how I love teen series.
