In case you didn’t know, I’m such a Netflix junkie. Sorry, not sorry…I love to lay in bed and watch episode after episode of television shows blissfully unaware of the world around me. I mean, come on…we’re all guilty of it sometimes! What in the world did we do without Netflix?!
Anyways, I have some current favorites on Netflix…without a doubt! There are tons of great shows and movies on there, but there are some that I could and do watch over and over and over again. Here are some of them…I highly recommend them all!:
Not-so-guilty pleasure: Pretty Little Liars – I am obsessed with it! I love watching old episodes even though I’ve seen them all. As silly as it is, it keeps me on edge because the scandals and drama are that intense.
Oldie but goodie: Pretty in Pink – this was recently added to Netflix and I have always loved this movie. Such an 80’s classic!
Something dramatic: Private Practice – I just started watching this on Netflix in the spring and don’t know why it took me so long to start. This show is seriously good and if I had a dime for how many times it’s brought me to tears…let’s just say that I could buy some serious stuff.
Dose of reality: NYC Prep – This is the show that way back when started my love affair with Bravo, and I couldn’t be happier it’s been added to Netflix.
Laugh out loud: Orange is the New Black – this is the first NF series that I’ve watched and it’s so funny so far and totally unique. Definitely worth a try. I didn’t think I’d enjoy it initially, but I really do – it really appeals to a broad range of audiences.
I was on vacation in Aruba last week (the best!) and I was so happy to have so much time to read. Reading is one of my favorite things ever, especially on vacation.
I got to read so many great books and have some awesome recommendations for your summer reading list!
Here is exactly what I read, what I thought, in the order that I read them:
This was a great mystery and suspense read. I’ve read a ton of Lisa Scottoline books and loved them all. This one was different from her crime and mystery books because instead of being about a lawyer, it focuses on a judge. This took barely any time to really get into the story and was all around worth reading. Very suspenseful!
Sophie Kinsella’s books are always so funny. She has such an easy way of writing and telling a story that I can never put her books down. I loved the characters in this book and the story that developed around them. This book was a little bit predictable – but in a good way. You love what you know is going to happen next and can’t stop reading to ensure that it does. It’s that kind of story.
Wow. I loved this book. I was a little bit weary of it because it didn’t get amazing reviews on Good Reads. It was reviewed to be more…average. But, I think those reviews were oh-so-wrong. I loved this story and seriously could not put it down! I loved escaping to the Nantucket island where this book took place and getting lost in the minds of the characters. I really loved how it was set in all of their voices rather than just one characters. Definitely a fast paced book and a perfect summer read.
Nicholas Sparks always writes a good story and this is no exception. I will but a warning that this is an emotional read. It definitely had me going. I don’t want to give up too much – but have tissues nearby! Totally worth reading.
At first I was really skeptical about this book. The story line of it seemed really weird. But, I have to say it turned out to be an amazing tale. It was even educational and eye-opening. I loved the way the female took on a different and unique role in the novel and thought all of the characters and problems surrounding them were developed really well. This book did a great way of dealing with a real-world issue (that doesn’t get nearly enough attention) in a touching fictional light. I can’t wait to read more Kristin Hannah books!
What have been your favorite reads so far this summer?
I haven’t been reading as much as I’d like to. Or blogging nearly as much as I would like to be. But I am definitely starting to get back on track…with both of those things.
That being said, this week I finished a book I’d been reading: Once Upon a Time, There Was You by Elizabeth Berg.
I picked this book up in the bargain book section of Barnes & Noble because I thought it sounded really good. And it turns out, my gut feeling was right. It was a great read.
The great thing about this book that it was so different. Berg does a great job touching upon underlying themes that she doesn’t exactly mention, but you know they’re there. You can feel them. Things like loneliness. Letting go. Lost love. Those things that everyone can relate to on some level, big or small. That’s what it was about this book that made it worth reading.
If you’re looking for something totally out of the ordinary, I’d definitely recommend this book. It’s not at all what you would expect after reading the book jacket, but it’s still a very great story.
These words of the week are a little different than usual. Usually I put up a quote that’s inspiring and motivational. Today, though, my words of the week are more of what I want rather than what I believe:
I have been in the weirdest funk this week. So lazy. So wanting to just…veg. But unable to because of the gigantic pull of all I have to do.
I woke up yesterday wanting so badly to just sleep and sleep and sleep. This is so unusual for me. But still, it’s what I wanted.
In this crazy time of life, I wish I could just have a day to settle down, cuddle up, and watch my favorite movies. Read a book. Nap. And nap. And nap some more. Pin a million pins on Pinterest and clear my always cluttered mind.
Last week I was in Florida and felt so relaxed and as worry free as I could possibly be (and for me, that’s saying a lot). Usually I have so much stress and anxiety over silly things, but during my vacation I was able to sit back and actually enjoy what was going on around me, what I was doing and the people I was with.
I feel as though over the past year and a half I’ve spent so much of my time rushing around. Rushing to finish that paper. Rushing to be ahead of all the work I need to do. Rushing from her to there on errands around town when I’m home. Rushing to meetings and constantly rushing to please everyone and do everything. It is seldom that I sit back and enjoy the moment that I’m in and much more likely that I’m in a rush.
My sister always makes fun of me when I rush before I leave the house. She says I get frantic running up and down the stairs because I forget everything. When I rush through life, it is kind of like that. Although I don’t seem constantly frantic and frazzled, I find myself forgetting to be appreciative of the moment I’m in. Forgetting to be happy and actively aware of how great that moment I’m in can be, because I’m way too busy thinking of what I’m going to do the next moment, and the one after that, and so on.
After having such a great vacation and truly realizing how important it is to value the moments and be present to them, I feel as though I need to prioritize doing that more often. I know I can’t change the way I live with a snap of my fingers, but I need to take more time to enjoy the little moments of my life and stop worrying about things ahead.
I can do this in so many ways, and so can you. Try to enjoy each moment by:
Disconnecting from the virtual world
Reading a good book
Spending time with a friend
Taking a walk (preferably on the beach)
Calling someone you love
Painting your nails
…the list goes on and on
Make this moment count before it gets away from you!
As you’ve probably realized, I have so many obsessions. And while some of them are here to stay, some of them come in waves where I’m totally obsessed for a while and then, after a period of time, not so much. It’s kind of like all things in life, ya know?
Anyways, here are my latest small obsessions:
Spa masks – this is so weird but I totally love these! They’re those masks that you put in the fridge and then put them on and they totally cool and soothe you. This is really relaxing and fun to wear and I’m totally loving mine right now!
Jelly beans – yum! Although I’m not usually a jelly bean lover I got some from the cafeteria candy bar the other day and now have a mini-obsession with them! They’re colorful, sweet, and very yummy.
Mystery/thriller reads – I blogged about this recently and have been completely hooked on mystery and thriller books. This definitely happens from time to time with my reading preferences and right now I’m in a mystery trend! I just can’t put those suspenseful books down!
K-cup filter – I use my Keurig a lot, especially at school, and recently got a little filter for it so I can scoop in my own coffee, rather than always using a K-cup. This is so cool and definitely worth it! I drink things really slow, so many times leave a cup of coffee unfinished because it gets cold or something like that. This allows me to make a smaller cup of coffee and be less wasteful! Such a great idea, and it’s really easy to use!
Pink nail polish – as I’m totally wishing for summer right now, I’m loving pink shades of polish. My two favorites (as of right now) are OPI’s “Sweetheart” and Essie’s “Knockout Pout”.
