Ways to Welcome {Summer}

The weather has finally turned and it’s time to get your tan on, soak up the rays, attend and host barbecues, and head out on the boat. It’s SUMMER.

My favorite season by far, it exudes warmth and fun, fun, FUN. It’s an understatement to say I am happy about the season finally being here. I feel like we suffered in the cold for way, way too long this winter (um, goodbye to a blizzard named Nemo).

Anyways, there are so many ways to celebrate summer’s arrival! Here are some of my favorites:

Barefoot by Elin Hilderbrand | Pure Paradise Body Wash | What Alice Forgot by Liane Moriarty | South of the Border Bon Shopper | Essie Summer 2013 Collection

  1. Incorporate citrus! – Citrus is without a doubt the flavor of the season, so bring it into your life in one way or another. You can try baking a citrusy recipe (lemon bars, anyone?) or even just adding it to your cooking or drinks. I personally love lime.
  2. Switch your handbag (and all your accessories!) – Switch out your handbag to a more summer-friendly option. I know that in the winter I tend to stick to black, while in the summer I love using my bright pink JPK bag and fun green Longchamp.
  3. Change your scent – summer comes with a whole new pallette of scents – so take advantage of them! Switch your body wash, lotion, and perfume to something that you love and that reminds you of summer!
  4. Paint your nails – every occasion calls for a perfect nail color, so why not paint yours in a festive summer color? There are so many great ones out there that really make a statement!
  5. Stock up on beach reads – go to Barnes & Noble and stock up on some fabulous summer reading books! There are so many to choose from and this is one of my favorite things about the summer.

What are you doing to welcome summer?

In Case of an Emergency: Car Kit

When you’re zipping around town (or wherever) in your car, you never know what could happen. You could break down, the weather could change, the day could be longer than expected…who knows!?

That’s why you definitely need to pack an emergency car kit to keep with you at all times. You don’t need to have a ton in there, just a few essential things to keep yourself safe in the case of an emergency.

A great way to store these emergency items is in one of these Lilly Pulitzer storage bins. Cute and useful!

Here’s what to include in your kit:

car kit

An umbrella – you never know when the weather will change. Even if it’s not raining when you head out, the skies could open. I feel as though lately I’ve been getting caught in the rain again and again…and it is not fun. For that reason, I think it’s important to have an umbrella in your car at all times. That way, even if it rains unexpectedly, you’re covered.

A box of granola bars – you never know when you’ll get held up somewhere, whether it be because you’re stuck in traffic or some other reason. In order to avoid serious hunger, keep a snack in your kit. A box of simple granola bars will do for something quick and on the go. Make sure not to pick something that will spoil or melt.

Napkins – I don’t know how anyone’s car has no napkins in it! Whether you use them for blowing your nose or cleaning up a spill – they’re a must.

A sweatshirt or extra jacket – just incase your car ever breaks down in the cold, you never want to put yourself in a situation where you’ll get dangerously cold. Keep an old sweatshirt in your car just incase you ever need to warm up, for any reason.

A car phone charger – you never know when your phone will go dead! You don’t want to be without any way of contacting your family and friends in the case of an emergency, so be sure to have a car charger.

Extra cash – you never know when you might need emergency cash, so keep a reasonable (but not large) amount in your kit. Somewhere around $40 is probably a safe amount.

What emergency items do you keep in your car that you’ve found most useful?

Watermelon Crawl: Pink and Green

What could be more preppy than the color combination of pink and green? I’m gonna go with…just about nothing.

Not only is pink and green the epitome of preppy, though, it’s also super adorable. And great for summer. And, pretty much, every other time of the year.

That being said, there are tons of great pink and green products out there right now just waiting to be purchased, used, worn, and shown off.

Here are some of my favorites:

pink and green

Flatiron Nylon Maryanne | Cora Dress | Double Wrap Bracelet | Woven Chevron Pillow | Ahoy Matey Maybook | Custom Jacks | Oxford Chino Shorts | Tiny Bits Clutch | Daisy Daisy Bracelet

Keep in mind this is a great color combo not only to use in clothes and accessories, but also when it comes to decorating, buying stationery, wrapping a gift, and so on. You can never go wrong with a little pink and green!

Preppy Product: Perfect Black Bags

I have a ton of bags. I mean a ton of them. In the past week, my collection has grown by like…three. I am kind of an addict.

And, with that said, I know better than anyone that every occasion requires a different bag. One of the most versatile bags are black ones, because they are sleek and tend to match with, well…everything.

Anyways, I have come across some perfect black bags that are the best for particular occasions. See them here:

The go-anywhere bag – This Kate Spade bag is perfect for running errands or dinner out. It’s small, adorable (I mean, it has a bow of sorts!) and is just convenient. The size is great, as are the inside pockets. The best part is the outside pocket which is perfect for your keys and iPhone.

The professional bag – This Longchamp is the best for interviews or work. It’s sleek, simple, fits a ton without being bulky, and is really cute! Definitely a no brainer for work. It is also very durable, as all Longchamps are, which means it will wear well no matter where you’re commuting to or working.

The light travel bag – this black Coach bag is timeless and spacey, great for a plane carry on, day trip, or even overnight when you don’t need tons of stuff. What a stylish way to tote your things!

Happy May!

Rabbit rabbit! Happy May!

It’s May and with that comes so many exciting things. It is also a time of a lot of change (and in a way, anxiety) for me. But, I am also looking forward to so many thing in this awesome month. Here is what I’m most excited for:

  1. Graduation! – so bittersweet, but definitely something to be celebrated!
  2. Being home – love my home, my family, the people that being home means I get to be with, and the memories made here. So, so excited for this!
  3. Summer apparel – goodbye jackets, scarves, and moccasins…hello Lilly, Jacks, and seer sucker!
  4. Enjoying the season – beautiful weather, beautiful flower, time on the boat under the sun…a tan on my skin. What’s not to love?
  5. Memorial Day – a great holiday filled with barbecues, American Flag baked goods (made by me!), friends, family, lots of fun, and all things America. In a word: perfect.

What are you looking forward to this month? Let’s make it a great one!

Dream Home: Chevron

Since graduation is coming, and by extension that means beginning to become a real person is starting (wait, what!?), I am obsessed with looking at what I like to call, “someday houses”. I definitely will not have houses anywhere like this in the near future, but it’s totally something to work towards!

This “dream house” post is different than others where I focused on specific rooms. This one, instead, is all about accents. And the accent that I’m currently loving in chevron.

I never knew you could do so much awesome stuff with chevron in your house. For me, it’s always been more of a fashion and accessory design. But, thanks to Pinterest, I now know how great it is for your home design and decor.

Which do you like best? Isn’t this something so cool and new?
